As I did my runs and biking this last week, it was fun to think through mysix word running memoir. I found that I couldn't jump right to the end, but instead, took a mental stroll through the last 13 years of running. It was interesting to contemplate how my running has changed through the years as would have my six word memoir.
Here is a glimpse into my running life, with mysix word chapter titles...
When I started running, it was hard. If I was writing a memoir, I know the title of my first chapter for my first year would have been:
I will just keep running, trying.
As the next year went on, I found my rhythym and love for running. The next chapter and phase for my running would be titled
Started late. Many miles to go.
or maybe...
Running makes me stronger every day.
or even..
Wish I would have started sooner.
And then I decided to take on the marathon and that chapter of my life and I confident to say would have been been titled
I will never run another marathon.
Not a good experience. But nonetheless, I was still hooked on running. After the marathon, life got really busy with work and baby #1. There was never enough time to run, but I made time anyway and the next few years blended into one big chapter labeled,
Life's complicated. Running's simple. That's why.
And then when I thought life couldn't get crazier, it did with Baby #2, a more demanding job and few more years of age on my running body. This chapter of my running would be titled,
Life's fast so I run slow.
I found myself running more slowly, enjoying the time on the road with less focus on getting faster or running longer. And with more relaxed running, I found I valued my running time as thinking time more and more. It helped me relax, plan, recenter. The next few years would be titled:
Running. My sweet escape from life.
or
Without running, I would go crazy.
And then, after years of running by myself, I found the time and confidence to run more with friends and found the other wonderful side of running. The theme of this chapter would be
Running's good. Running friends are great.
or
I would have stopped without friends.
And because celebrations came with the more social side of running there would have been a short chapter labeled,
Running. Cookies. Beer. How wonderful together!
And now, looking back and looking forward, I thinkmy memoir in six words would be:
I lose and find myself running.
We are looking forward to your six word memoirs as part ofTake It and Run Thursday.
