Fit for the slopes

Posted by Kristen D.

This article on MSNBC.com offers ideas on how skiers and snowboarders can stay safe and comfortable on the slopes this winter. Among them:

1. Warm up your muscles with a few easy runs down the mountain before taking on greater challenges.

2. Keep moving in long lift lines. On skis, a shuffle movement will help keep you warm; on a snowboard, squats will do.

3. Stay hydrated.

....and more. Click the link in the post title above to learn more, including how to keep in shape off the slopes.

I'm a bit dissapointed at that article. They left the most important point for last. Basically, don't be a weekend warrior. Keep in shape in the offseason. That's way more important than any warmup exercises you can do. You're bound to hurt yourself if you just jump into snow sports without being in shape.

Hit the running trail in the summer! :)

Also, if you're waiting in the lift line for so long that you need to do exercises, you should probably think about going to a new mountain.
