Adjust your bindings

Get your bindings adjusted at your local ski shop.

Buckle your boots

Buckle up your boots, even when you're not using them, to keep the shape.

Clean soles

Try to keep the soles of your boots clean to make sure they release consistently from your bindings.

Dry 'em out

Make sure your boots are dry after you use them, you'll be glad next time.

Dry storage

Store your skis in a dry area, and don't lean them against hot pipes or concrete floors.

Fat floats

If you're skiing in powder, use fatter skis, which tend to float on top of the powder.

Get a checkup

Have your bindings checked at least once a year by a ski shop to make sure they're functioning properly.

Goggles

Make sure to wear goggles or sunglasses to keep your eyes protected from the wind and sun.

Check to make sure the screws on you skis and bindings are tight before skiing.

Keep 'em clean

Keep your bindings clean at all times, dirt may corrode the bindings and cause them to malfunction.

Oil coating

During the summer, use a light coating of oil on the edges to prevent your skis from rusting.

Parabolic

New skis tend to have fatter ends and a skinner middle, giving them a parabolic shape that makes it easier to balance and turn.

Straight to shaped

If you've been skiing on straight skis, you may want to switch to shaped skis, which are far easier to turn and steer.

The right skis

Use a pair of skis that matches the terrain and conditions that you're skiing in. Skis vary in flex, material, shape and size.

Watch the glare

Wear sunscreen. The glare from the snow can double the impact of the sun.

Waterproof

Make sure your ski gear is waterproof. Look for fabric that is also wind-resistant.

Wear a hat

These days, most skiers wear a helmet. It definitely won't hurt you to have one on.

Wear layers

Dress in layers so you can accommodate changes in temperature throughout the day.
