I have prided myself for twenty-two years on being a true natural blonde, with the only highlights on this head coming from Mr. Sun himself, but this week, I can claim this no longer. I got highlights. It was time. I don’t live in sunny California anymore. No, this is New York, it is 25 degrees out, and this sun’s rays are coming nowhere near these locks this winter.
Thus, I headed to the new XAC Anthony Salon in NYC’s trendy meatpacking district to let them brighten up my roots (and to check out what they were all about). Enticed by complimentary cosmos and martinis, I went on a Thursday “XAC and the City” night, where they are open until midnight. It was either that or their popular Jose Cuervo sponsored Friday night “Tequila Sunsets”, which includes complimentary happy hour margaritas from 5-9pm. Um, hello? Fun!
I was warmly welcomed into the edgy salon, and immediately drawn to the remarkable artwork of simple things composed purely of broken shards of colorful glass. I sat down with color specialist Jeanise, whom I probably gave serious anxiety with how serious I was about my hair. I mean, I’ve never colored it, I was nervous, and I was trusting my precious locks with a complete stranger. But, I must admit I completely loved and trusted her and rightfully so—it came out absolutely amazing. It still looks natural, but mid-summer natural, and made me feel instantly better. Bye-bye mousy hippie hair.
Then, Xac himself gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had. So what if it was just a trim—this guy knew what he was doing. Everyone complimented my hair at work the following day (I guess I was in serious need!).
So, now I am forever on the highlight circuit and am getting seriously excited for my next visit. A girl deserves a little pampering once in a while…

After highlights (with trusty bumble and Bumble hairspray!)
