My lips are peeling in layers, dry and cracked. I cannot seem to get rid of this condition.

This is not a normal chapped lip scenario and has been going on for about 2 months.
I have been to a dermatologist and he prescribed an antibiotic thinking that it could be Thrush. (I have been wearing a mouthguard for about a year for TMJ. It gets cleaned quite frequently.)
I tried vaseline and that actually made my lips swell. I am becoming very self conscious of how horrible my lips look...I feel like I have leprosy.
Do you have any idea what this could be???
