Is it helpful or harmful to wear ankle weights while doing cardio exercises? Yes and no, experts say. The good: Ankle weights make large muscles, such as quads, glutes, and hamstrings, work harder to do the same exercise, which means a better workouts for those muscles. The bad: It will put more stress on the joints. If you have no joint problems, fine. But if you feel any problematic pain, by all means, stop! Instead of adding ankle weights, other options include varying speed or climbing hills, which will give you a bigger calorie burn, as well.
