Hello Linnea,
I think it's great that you are finding out all that you can about your daughter's fitness. First, as always, you should really consult a physician. Personally, I don't see a problem with using an eliptical. It does, however, depend on a couple of factors. The first factor is the intensity level that is being applied during the use of the eliptical. That includes the speed and angle. The other factor is the duration. How long are those sessions? There are always "fitness rumors" that float around. Consider the source. If it is someone who plays tennis, it may just be that they experienced difficulty. Make sure, as well, that you are working with a qualified, experienced trainer, who has had considerable experience working with people who have had knee problems. A good portion of my job is trouble shooting and part of that is getting down to the lowest common denominator. It sounds to me like your daughter might be experiencing some growth plate problems. It is fairly normal, but it is still good to get a physician's opinion.
I hope this helps. Thanks.

My daughter is 13 and plays tennis at a high level. Her knees have been bothering her (she's growing like a weed), so her conditioning trainer had her on the elliptical, so there'd be less stress on her knees. Now someone told me tennis players shouldn't use them. Your thoughts? Thanx!
