Anyway, I had a couple of reader questions on my
"Direct Assault" arms training article:
"I've always had trouble building big arms. I saw your article, and I'm going to give it a try. I'm also trying to build mass on my chest, shoulders and legs by doing a 5x5 program. How can I do both? I thought about doing the arm training program for 6 weeks then switching to the 5x5 program for mass. What would you suggest?"
Thanks,
Matt
My Answer: Matt, that sounds perfectly fine. Do the Direct Assault arm program along with an abbreviated program for the rest of the body. Do this for 6 weeks, and then follow up with an abbreviated 5x5 program for your chest, back, shoulders and legs. No direct arm work during this 5x5 period, which should be no more than 3 weeks. You'll find that your arms will supercompensate in size during the break.
"I visited your site about arm training for fast-twitch and slow-twitch muscle fibers. In my case, I train at home. I have no bench. I have succeeded in creating a pretty good physique, but need some info on exercises for my situation. I use the bar and dummbells each week. Can you give my an idea what would be good exercises to do in relation to your article?"
Thank you,
Bruce
My Answer: No bench? Who cares? You can develop an incredible physique with barbells and dumbbells and no bench. Look at the exercises listed in the article: you can do most of them without the use of a bench or power rack. Pick and choose from them.
