Next week it's back to school. BOOOO-HOOOO! I know most parents are rejoicing but this teacher's wife is sad. I love when O is off school for the summer. So much more time to spend together. I have a training partner more often than not. Oh, and O has time to do stuff like mow the lawn and make dinner. SWEET! :) So when I start to see the back-to-school commercials I always get a little sad. Nothing much to do though but make the most of our last week together with him off! (by the way, I know that even when O is back to teaching and coaching, I still get to see him a lot more than some wives and husbands do because neither he nor I travel for work or work 60 hours weeks...so I know it could be worse...and that we are spoiled...and that's partly why we chose the jobs we chose!)
Anyway, this week we tried to make the most of our week. Nothing big or extravagent - but neither of us are extravegent people. Or really big people for that matter. And of course I still had work.
Monday we drove in together and O dropped me off at work (at the hospital) while he went to cross country practice (x2) and set up his classroom and then he picked me up after work. Driving in together is another 2 hours spent together (even if in the car!).
Tuesday we spent the entire day together as I went to school with him to do my thing.
Wednesday was a banner day. I did a whole bunch of work at home while he spent the morning at cross country practice but then we had all afternoon/evening to relax, go out to lunch, watch a movie, play a few games (he beat me badly in Scrabble) and just generally enjoy life. Ahhh...
Thursday I had quite a bit of training to do and he spent the day at cross country practice (x2) and again setting up his room but we ate dinner together and enjoyed the evening.
And then yesterday I worked at the hospital but got home in time to grab a quick dinner and head to Greensburg so I could watch O play softball. He hasn't played all year but the team (that he has played on for the last 18 years) was in need of a fill-in pitcher so he stepped up to the plate (or perhaps I should say mound). I was scared for his arm. It's fast pitch softball - not "lob the ball easy into the plate" so he throws quite hard and without any work all year I feared his arm might detach from his body. But he survived, they won the game and the team moved on in the playoffs. WHEW! It was fun to watch him in action and it was a very nice night. But I would like to lodge a formal complaint against the bugs that seemed to take a liking to me. I. Am. So. Itchy. BAD BUGS! :)
This morning we slept in and then swam and rode together along with our friend Ben. Then we ate lunch. Ben, who teaches with O and is also a football coach, joined us for lunch and told us all about how he never gets home before 8 pm during football season during the week. And how they have games every Friday and then JV games every Saturday. And then on Sunday they have coaches' meetings from 10 am until 3 or 4 pm. And then all I could think of was how happy I am that O is a cross country coach and not a football coach. WOW!
Then we came home and took a nap. Oh I know, our lives are rough! Tomorrow will be much of the same. I'm really thankful I had the time (and thanks to the taper not as much training as usual) to make the most of this last week! Because Monday it's back to school with cross country practice after school and cross country meets during the week and just about every Saturday. Oh we'll still make time together for sure but my days of coming home to dinner already being made are over until next summer! :) Hey, at least he's not a football coach... :)

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and spending a lot of time with family and friends!
