I didn't used to take any supplements, but my health has deteriorated, so I have added a variety of things to give it a boost (targeting my broken systems). I don't recommend that healthy people take anything for a number of reasons. First being that if you aren't deficient, then why take anything (if it ain't broke, don't fix it). Second is that the doses of many vitamins are way higher than anyone needs (even if they are sick). Some vitamins can be toxic if you take more than your body uses (iron, A, D, E, K for example). Last, but not least is that the supplement industry is poorly regulated (if at all). You think drug oversight by the FDA is bad, the supplement industry is way worse (anyone remember the tryptophan ban a bunch of years back from tainted supplements?).
If you plan on taking supplements, then look for clinical studies which report on dosing and effect. Also look into the manufacturer of the brand to check on their history. Most importantly, work with your health care professional to determine what your individual needs are.
I take a nutrional shake supplement. It's a great and delicious breakfast everyday!
Here's some more info on the shake:

I also enjoy a multivitamin with my meals.
