I weighed myself this morning, as I do most Wednesdays. Tomorrow is the holy grail of eating, Thanksgiving. Do I plan on not eating my turkey dinner just because I’m on a diet? Oh hell no! Will I have a slice of cold pumpkin pie for breakfast on Friday morning? You betcha! And will I have a sandwich made with leftover turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and Miracle Whip? Of course!
Why would I do all that and possibly endanger my diet?
Two reasons. One: I love the aforementioned items. We only have them once a year. So I’m not going to deny myself – after all, Thanksgiving 2009 is a long way off! I plan on eating one plate with everything I love for dinner, pie for dessert that night, followed by breakfast pie and then the fabulous sandwich. The second reason that I plan on doing this is because I really don’t believe that eating like that will cause me to gain weight over the course of a week. Hence, the weigh-in the day before. I want to prove to myself that I can enjoy the holiday in my usual manner without gaining weight – provided I go back to normal, healthy eating after I’ve eaten what I want.
I hope that by identifying what I want to eat, I will be in control of the holiday – and not simply eating everything in sight and stuffing myself repeatedly over the course of the four-day weekend.
I’ll let you know how this worked out after I weigh in next Wednesday.
And a Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow bloggers!
