Bathing Suit Season Strategy #7

Posted Mar 21 2008 12:01pm 1 Comment

Alright my wife Liane and I have finished our 30 day belly fat transformation. Let me give you a recap for those that maybe started following us sometime during the 30 days.

We both had a goal of losing belly fat and getting six pack abs. We didn't have much to lose, but had enough to hide our abs. This makes it even more difficult because your body doesn't want to give up that last remaining fat. Some of you that have dieted before and tried to lose those last 5-10 pounds know what I am talking about. This is the most difficult part of the weight loss process.

When the 30 days began I had fat mass of 20 pounds and a bodyfat percentage of 11.5%. My goal was to get to 10% or less bodyfat percentage. If I get to 8% then I will have a complete set of six pack abs. It is impossible to lose all 20 pounds of fat mass or else my bodyfat percentage would be 0%. That physically isn't possible so of course I don't expect this to happen.

Liane had 21 pounds of fat mass at a bodyfat percentage of 18.86%. Her goal was to lose her excess baby belly fat and get her hips smaller.

The program started out great then the midwest United States winter set in and dumped plenty of viruses and germs in our house. Liane got sick first and couldn't exercise for 2 1/2 weeks. She just had to rely on good nutrition. You can lose weight with just nutrition, but when combined with proper exercise your results are accelerated. I then got a bad sinus infection that didn't stop my exercise completely, but made it more erratic and at a lower intensity then I had wished.

This is what happens in life and I discussed this with you a few weeks ago. There is never a perfect time to lose weight and there are always going to be stumbling blocks that try to derail you from your goals. Ours was illness. We could have easily given up and said we will start again in April. As some of you can relate to this you restart your diet all the time. The littlest bump in the road causes you to quit.

We weren't going to let this happen though. We realized that our results may be a little less, but we will still get results and who is to say we won't have more bumps in the road in April that stress our discipline and our plan.

So we perservered and kept focusing on our diet and exercised when we could.

So let me get to the results.

I started at 174 pounds and 11.5% bodyfat. I finished at 175 pounds at 10% bodyfat. I met my goal of gaining new lean body mass and getting to 10% bodyfat or less. I personally thought I could get lower, but again I had bumps in the road that slowed me down some. I lost 1.5% bodyfat, 1 3/8 inches from my abdomen and 2 1/2 inches from my waistline. This was great since my fat sits right at my love handles and belly button.

Liane's results were realized with only about 1 1/2 weeks of exercise, but following her Dress Size Reduction Diet. Liane lost 8 pounds, 2.8% bodyfat, 1 1/4 inches from her hips, 1 1/4 inches from her abdomen, and 1 inch from her waistline.

She did all this with having colds and sinus infections for over half the 30 days. She actually burned fat because she specifically followed her Dress Size Reduction Diet and exercised when she could.

Now imagine if we just said "Let's just start next month because that will be a better time". She wouldn't have lost any fat and could have gained weight because when she is sick she just wants to eat junk food.

That is perserverance!

You are going to have good months where you make a lot of progress with your weight loss and you are going to have months where bumps in the road slow down your progress for that month.

Keep perservering and continue to make progress because as things get better and there are less bumps in the road your progress will take off and you will be so glad you kept at it.

I know you can do it!

PS: When times are tough is when you will have permanent success. Don't let anything derail you in your pursuit of looking great in that bathing suit this season. Perserve and enjoy how you look.

Jayson, Thanks for sharing your story. It is easy to put off weight loss when you're not feeling well. It's an inspiration to know that you can achieve that kind of results even on a modified plan due to illness.
