Being Tempted: What to do About It.

What makes you want to break your weight-loss diet? Is it to reduce hunger? Is it for the pleasure you get when you eat? Is it simply out of habit? Is it because you’re feeling bored, frustrated, angry, anxious, depressed, or any number of other feelings? Is it sometimes many things at once?

When you’re dieting, it calls for you to curb your temptations. So what do you do when you’re confronted with tempting food, plus you’re hungry, seeking pleasure, needing to calm your emotions, and you’ve got a habit of doing it all with food?

How can you stay on that weight-loss diet?

To deal with being tempted, shift your attention. Try turning a sharp eye to your dieting goal, away from the short-term temptation.

You can:

  • shift your attention by reminding yourself of how good you felt yesterday when you stuck to your diet plan and didn't have to feel stuffed when the meal was over.
  • visualize your intention to try out your thinner body by exercising with a friend.
  • think about the new outfit you bought for work that fits just right now that you've lost some of the weight.

Choose whatever you like to put your attention back on your weight-loss mission. Picture your goal in your mind. Enhance it by thinking out the course of action you will take in order to achieve your vision. This changes your orientation from feeling tempted and focuses you back to your goal of staying on your weight-loss diet.
