Confession.

Posted May 14 2009 4:43pm

This is the kind of vitamin I took because I "liked the taste" back when I was a Bariatric Brat.  Okay, so it wasn't specifically SCOOBY-DOO, but, you get it.  I took Children's Chewables because they tasted good, if I took any.

My favorite?  Those Vitaballs, vitamin gumballs!  They didn't even taste that great, but I thought I was having something totally naughty.

I found the photo, I thought I wrote about these balls of sucrose and vitamin, chews, I used them all. the. time.  Maybe I didn't share it with you?  Maybe because they contained sugar?  I don't really remember.  But.  I know I bought them with the thought process that I WOULD USE THEM - AND THE KIDS WOULD MAYBE TRY THEM.

Vitaballs!

Back when I had my weight loss surgery, I didn't really know there were bariatric specific vitamins, I just went blindly to the store and grabbed "chewable."  I thought I knew enough to get the right thing - keeping it low sugar and chewable was probably enough, right?

And, if it's got "100%" or close enough, it's probably enough, right?  How would I know if I'm low in specific areas?  Eh.  Whatever, right? How would I know what to supplement then?

Taking baby vitamins makes sense for a woman that has had her guts rearranged - SURE.

Looking back, I am a moron, how did I not expect problems?  But, it was the advice of many doctors to take Childrens' Vitamins back then.  Perhaps I got stuck on that idea and because they tasted good - I stuck with it?

And, to be perfectly bluntly honest, vitamin-supplementation for the bariatric patient made specifically for US can get expensive.

I could not afford it  (although had we cut out other stupid choices, vitamins belong at the top of the list) many times in the first part of my journey, which is why I made idiotic choices to go without.

Yeah, so what if I might be paying for it now?  You. know. better.

Although, many of my peers knowingly go without, because they are 'just fine' without any supplements, and they have 'great' blood labs.  :/  Some, even with the vites in front of them, will go without.  It's so deeply ingrained.  I don't get it.

YES WE DESERVE IT, however tempting it is to yield to cartoon characters on chewable vitamins.

PS.   If I ever made a line of vites, would you want characters on 'em?  Would it empower you to bite Betty Boop?  Wonderwoman?  For boys?  Smurfs?  Fraggles?  Snorks?  Heh.
