Can you share with us the type of things that make up your everyday diet?

When you get older your metabolism slows down, which is why you will gain weight even if you haven't change your eating habits.

I don't think you should go on a "diet" if it means reducing food intake only and only until you reach a certain goal weight. However, you could go on a diet if it means a permanent lifestyle-change.

See your doctor first. Your physician might be able to shed some light on your weight gain.

Problems that we didn't experience earlier in life have a way of rearing their ugly heads when we least expect them to. Rather than assume overeating, age or lack of fitness as the problem, engage in meaningful dialogue with your medical professional to at least ensure that problems are not due to medical issues which might require prompt attention.

I agree with Kristen - lets find out what you're eating first.

I've lost count of the number of clients who arrive in my clinic, announce that they eat a really healthy diet but.....and go on to describe their symptoms. Upon further questioning, it turns out that what they thought was a healthy diet actually wasn't

Also Jamie's suggestion is a good one, your doctor's clinic is a good place to start any investigation around your health.

Going on a strict diet may actually hurt your chances of losing weight. As an expert on the psychology of eating, for 3 decades I've been teaching people the non-diet approach to weight loss through counseling, workshops, and my books. Focus needs to be on the rules of "normal" eating. Once you're following these and exercising regularly, then you can eat healthily. Diets don't work long term. Studies conclude that 95-98% of people who lose weight dieting regain it and 90% regain more than they originally lost. See my website, www.eatingnormal.com for more information. Karen R. Koenig

Hi Mike,

Not to pile on, but it would really help to know what is your definition of "an average guy, with your average gut... and healthy food"

We are all blessed with different body chemistry. My brother had a 6-pack until his early 30s (without trying) and then suddenly things changed.

Me, I have always been a "husky" guy. Keeping off the pounds requires effort.

If you could give us and idea of what a typical day of eating is for you, it would really help.

If there is no change in your diet that could explain your weight gain, I would suggest you try an herbal colon cleanser. A sluggish colon can lead to poor digestive health, improper absorption of nutrients, and subsequent weight gain. The intestinal pH balance is disturbed and more bad bacteria proliferate in the colon. Proper assimilation of nutrients does not take place. Fats are broken down and stored in the body instead of being eliminated from the system; nutrients are not fully absorbed due to poor digestive health. Over time, toxins accumulate in the system. The accumulative result is weight gain and a rundown condition. A scientifically-based herbal colon cleanser like BeneCleanse can help relieve the accumulated waste, remove toxins from the system and tone the digestive system so that it nutrients are properly digested and absorbed by the body. BeneCleanse also provides nutritional support – a daily multivitamin with fiber and other nutrients that help to establish colonic, digestive and systemic health. Nourishing your colon can lead to better weight management.

In my experience, losing weight is largely a mental or emotional issue. Most dieters know what to eat. They know they need to take physical exercise. It's the emotional side of dieting they have difficulty with. That's why I include tons of motivation help and a fantastic support forum in my weight loss program. Because if I can help you improve your motivation to lose weight, the rest is easy.
