It happens. Some of you out there say that It NEVER HAS TO HAPPEN, that you should never find yourself in the place where you have to resort to fast-food. Let me state that it happens a lot less in my life NOW than ever before. But, today, I tried something new:
Dunkin Donuts Egg White Turkey Flatbread Sandwich (Please turn your volume off so as to avoid hearing Rachael Ray.) "A highlight of the DDSMART menu is Dunkin' Donuts' new Egg White Flatbread Sandwiches. Dunkin' Donuts is the first national quick service restaurant chain to introduce egg white sandwiches. The DDSMART menu includes two varieties of this innovative item: Turkey Sausage (featuring turkey sausage, spinach and reduced-fat mozzarella cheese) and Veggie (featuring peppers, onions, mushrooms and reduced-fat cheddar cheese). Both are under 300 calories, with nine grams of fat or less, and are served on wholesome toasted multigrain flatbread."
I knew, going into this sandwich, that I planned to peel half the 'bread' off and toss it to a kid because it goes over my imposed carby limitations and probably my stomach capacity. Once I had it's cardboard-like flaming hotness in my hand, I blew on the bread and gave it willingly away. The Multigrain Flatbread? Ick. Gack. No. It serves a purpose in literally getting the egg white concoction to my mouth, but it lacked much if any flavor or anything. Dry, cardboardy and just, ick. I immediately wanted to butter it, and fatten it up, which is all sorts of wrong for a low fat low calorie sandwich. But, it's got all sorts of love in the ingredients that I should be all about, it's just that, I can't. The texture was not for me. Too ick. Now, slather this in cheese, and it's fine. It's lovely. It just cannot be plain. The Egg White Part. Not Too Shabby, and that's coming from an egg-not-friendly person. It was somewhat like a quiche-y taste when bit with the mozzarella cheese. Not bad, not bad at all. While I enjoyed it enough, I really wanted more flavor, and I was chewing, thinking of things to add to it, trying not to add to the calorie count this time, "How about chopped onions, mushrooms, peppers, salt and pepper?" I guess - on the fly - it's a the best choice for someone like ME - who has limited choices otherwise and would normally go without or would eat half a donut or something equally as damaging. I am not impressed with overall taste, but the nutrition stats are pretty darn good. I bet DD will do better next time, so it is a good first try. Now, DD needs to start carrying soy milk so I can get my cappuccino there once in a while and life will be complete, yes? - Product - Dunkin Donuts Egg White Turkey Flatbread Sandwich
