How to lose 15 pounds

Posted by Sue R. Registered Dietician

The answer to this question may be easier than you think if you are a soda-drinker, according to what I just read in the Sept. 2007 issue of Tufts University Health & Nutrition Letter.

If you normally consume one regular soda per day, and you cut this out of your daily diet, the calories you save would amount to a 15 pound weight loss in one year!

Sure it won't happen overnight, but what a relatively painless way to go...

BTW...if you are interested in food and health, I'd highly recommend getting a subscription to the Tufts Letter. Post a note or drop me an email and I'd be happy to send you ordering info.

How about substituting the soda with Green tea? Drinking 6 to 8 cups of Green tea can help you lose 2 more pounds with other added health benefits! Another effective way to begin any weight loss program is by using an herbal colon cleanse, like BeneCleanse. It cleanses the colon and helps to detoxify your system so you may notice an immediate weight loss of a few pounds after using the product. The digestive herbs help to prepare your body for any weight loss regimen by toning the digestive system so that it eliminates fats properly. Certain herbs help to reduce abdominal bloating and gas which surprisingly can add unnecessary inches to your waistline! The fiber helps to promote feelings of satiety so you don’t feel hungry as often.
Such interesting views from all that post here. I only had about 65 lbs to get to my goal weight. I set a goal, read it, kept it fresh in my mind. But put a deadline on it. I reached my first goal weigh last wednesday. It was NOT the whole amount.  In my mind it is all about small steps. Let your Doc. know what your doing. Have a full blood test done. Watch it every thre months or so. Think fresh foods. Shop the perimiter of the grocery store. Know what your are going to eat for the week. Cook at home, sit and eat. Eat slowly. get to know your full signal. Dink lots of h2o and walk. You've got to move to loose. good luck.

A lot of great ideas on this page. There is no one-step solution but here's a grand list:

- Keep a food and exercise log with two columns: on the left, your Plan and on the right, Actual. Try your best to get as close to your healthy plan as possible.

- We've gone from a species who was physically active for food and survival to one with an overabundance of food and endless amount of work at a computer. Gotta schedule those workouts now. At least a half-hour five to six days a week is doable.

- change it up, keep your body guessing. You'll entertain your mind,  and by working a larger variety of muscles, you'll avoid injury, burn more calories and take your weight loss past plateau.

- At the grocery shop the perimeter of the store. The healthiest food items also have the fastest turnover: veggies, fruits, meats, fish, eggs, etc. generally line the sides and back. The less nutritious processed and preserved foods: junk, pastas, cereals, canned food, etc. is in the middle.

- Eat frequent mini-meals so that you stay fueled but don't overfill the tank.

- Take a multivitamin and calcium pill daily. Whole foods are best for nutrient delivery, but consider the pills a "Plan B" for your naughty days.

- RUN your errands. Park far away if you must drive. Those extra steps get your heart rate up and expend extra calories.

- Sleep. 7-8hrs a night. Don't shortchange yourself or the poor people who have to put up with your crabby sleep deprived form. Not only will your daily performance suffer but sensing stress, your body will store fat thinking a famine is coming.

We could (and should) go on for days with this topic...now I'm needing that sleep.

I suggest u choose a right and healthy way, only by this way can it be permanent.

U may need a guider to  help ur plan, I recommend you try P90X, it will guide u step by

step in detail. Follow the link:www.dvduz.com

Eat more raw foods, less processed foods, eliminate fast food, cut portion sizes in half, eat 3 moderate meals and 2 -3 small snacks per day, incorporate an additional 5-10 minute total body activity program into your day especially if you only workout 3 or 4 times per week. The 15 min. workout modified to 5-10 min. is a good start. My book Live Smart will provide a good framework. www.lulu.com/tcinvestor www.squidoo.com/livesmart
One of the quickest ways to lose 15 pounds is to begin a diet log.. it makes you more mindful of the calories you're consuming throughout the day.  I have my clients start their log by creating a general list over a 1 week period of time.  After their one week, we review their results and I start their second week by recommending they break down their general list into groups based on time of consumption.  Week 3's homework assignment is to approximate portion size during the week.  Week 4's assignment involves actual counting of calories and macronutrients (proteins/carbs/fats).  We then discuss how the balance these out better and we create an action plan to get on track and stay there.. usually, their realization of the excess calories they've consumed during the first month is enough to help them drop the weight.
There have been tons of studies done on colon cleansing ~ and putting it succinctly ~ don't waste your money! Eating right, exercising, drinking plenty of water and adding fiber to your diet (if it's lacking) will do you right every time. Finding a gym with a good trainer who understands your goals and nutrition is an invaluable resource :)

I need to lose 25 pounds according to my doctor and I am interested in doing a colon cleanse.

 Has anyone done one?

There is so much to choose from.

I saw a site called http://www.coloncleanse.org and it wasn't trying to sell anything, but it did say you have to be careful as it can be hard.

Has anyone successfully done a colon cleanse?

Did you lose any weight?

I have experienced such great results by living a healthy life style and using a nurturing cleanse and fat burning system that helps to reduce toxins and impurities from my body.  It is interesting that we change the oil in our cars so they continue to run, filters in our home so the air is cleaner, but we do nothing to assist the filters in our bodies to help get rid of impurities and toxins.  What people may not know is that when we inhale these toxins from many different ways, the body has to stave off these toxins by creating fat cells to cover these toxins and impurities, so many of us are walking around with additional fat cells just becuase of the impurities.  We need to cleanse on a regular basis, eat healthier and continue to excercise; to help our awesome filters continue to do what they were engineered to do!

Great question! And every answer that's been given is absolutely on.  I would definitely say that discipline is key.  Keep a chart record of your progress and goals, this way you can see a more linear picture of your delevopment.  Remember, no pain, no gain (or in this case, loss).  Also, talk to a dietician, or an expert in the category.  I would recommend you have a look at LivePerson, it's an excellent service that has exactly what you need.  Here:

Obesity is one of the major health problems that one is facing today. We should focus on weight management along with a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. The combination of fat burn, appetite suppression and energy boosting ingredients provide the perfect blend for proper weight loss.

I wish I had soda to cut out! I don't even touch the stuff! I found watching carbs for a while, drinking more water, and taking fiber is a fast boost to weight loss as well.

Thanks for the info on the tufts site!

Hello Sue R.- I would like to subscribe to Tufts Letter, and also how to keep the pounds away for good. Thanks.

There are lots of changes you can make that will add up to that type of change, including choosing skim milk in your coffee drink at Starbucks, eating a side salad with your evening meal (don't drown it with dressing), having fruit for a snack once a day instead of a pastry, chips or candy. Just pick one thing and change it. It can make a powerful difference over time.

I wish. Try two regular sodas a year!
