I hopped on the scale today at the gym before heading on over to the weight lifting area. Now, I was hoping to lose 65 pounds by the time Thanksgiving rolled around, but wasn't sure if I would be able to do it a few weeks ago...Fortunately, I've reached that goal more than a week in advance. I'm down to 252 pounds; I might even see the 240's before I bite into a slice of turkey heaven next week!
Now that I've mentioned my weight loss progress, I want to completely flip this blog post around and talk about something that someone
posted on a diet forum I read daily. Basically he said that we should stop using the term weight loss and replace it with the term fat loss. Of course we all want to lose weight, but we should be focusing more on losing
FAT. One reason a lot of people fail at losing weight is because they only think about the number on the scale. I personally believe that this is a bad mentality to have. Many people who purely focus on losing weight tend to go on very restrictive diets to see results as fast as possible and that is not how it should be at all. For example, a crash diet usually ends in a person gaining much of the weight they lost back because their metabolism slowed down so much in the process. People should work on maintaining and building muscle, while concentrating on losing fat slowly.
We live in a society where being thin equates to being healthy and that is far from the truth. Eating enough, developing healthy eating habits as well as a healthy relationship with food, and working out to maximize fat loss and minimize muscle loss are all necessary things to do if you want to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Focusing on fat loss is something that I think a lot of people need to work on (me especially). Do you?
