Neil Entwistle & Money is the Root of All Evil.

Posted Oct 23 2008 9:42pm

I know this is entirely unrelated to this blog, but I've been following this story, the Entwistle family murders.  Normally I don't, but I knew her, as Rachel Souza.  She wasn't a friend of mine, just an acquaintance through school and band, but it's so eerie because we were in school together, one year apart.  When I saw her face on TV because she was murdered with her beautiful baby, I immediately said that it had to be about money.  What else makes people so crazy, right?  They just got into a giant rental house in Hopkinton, MA, and the rent must have been overwhelming.  My mortgage for a very modest piece of 1969 is insane in MA - so, I can only imagine what the rent on a nice large home might be nearer to the city.  Especially since he was technically unemployed.  I'm not validating what he may have done to his family, but I can see how money could have been the trigger to his actions.  Money is Evil.

According to the Boston Herald today:

The family rented the $373,000 home 10 days before the murders despite the fact that neither Rachel nor Neil Entwistle had employment in Massachusetts. The monthly rent for the modernized colonial home was $2,700. The Entwistles had at least $8,000 in credit card debt and more than $25,000 in student loans. The couple was also paying about $400 per month to lease a BMW SUV that Neil Entwistle eventually abandoned in a Logan International Airport parking garage before he left for England after the murders.

Online computer records connected to eBay’s auction Web site show that Neil Entwistle was facing additional financial pressures from customers complaining he failed to deliver products they purchased from him through the Web site."
