The Card Deck Workout

This one is a classic and a great way to get a fast workout that changes things up a little. The way I learned it, you get a deck of cards and alternate between push ups and sit ups. Numbered cards are obvious, face cards and aces can be what you want.

I have a set of cards from a trainer by the name of Matt Furey that has 4 different exercises on them and it gives a good full-body workout. Along those lines, instead of just doing push ups and sit ups, add in a body weight squat and bridges. So, just rotate through those 4 exercises (push up, sit up, squat, bridge) doing one exercise per card until you get through the whole deck.

I recommend doing 10 repetitions for Jacks, 15 reps for Kings and Queens and 20 reps for aces. Oh, don’t forget Jokers…those are 50. If 50 reps of any exercise is too much, split the reps up between all the exercises (13 push ups, 13 sit ups, 12 squats, 12 bridges).

If the whole deck is too much (or you are really short on time) you can do 1/2 of the deck. Time yourself so you can gauge progress. If your rest time between cards is minimal to none, you will get a good cardio workout at the same time.

If these exercises get old, substitute new ones ( kettlebells, pull ups, use your imagination) as long as they are well rounded (upper body, lower body and abs/core). Have fun.
