Ken, I too walk our dog daily and she wants no less than two to three block walk. It is not quite the same as a daily 5-mile cardio walk, but I make it as an aggressive walk as I can, especially on rainy days.
In addition to walking the dog, I also go to Gold’s Gym and work out on the treadmill for half an hour and than do rest of my routine. When not to tired and the equipment is free I will set up the leg lift in three stages and will go up to 500 lbs as my top weight without straining.
All this has been made possible by listening to my doctor who was a cardiovascular specialist and since drugs did not reduce my blood pressure, he strongly recommended going to the gym.
About 15 years ago, I went to the gym for the first time and since all of the equipment looked strange, signed up with a trainer, that got his degree from San Jose State in physical ed. Over the years I have used him time after time and swear by him. He has done wonders for me, short of turning me into a guppy. Also as a side note, using an exercise coach, you actually will get more work out in than on your own. While you are stretching, he will be setting up the next piece of equipment.
The results of the physical exercise reduced my hypertension, blood pressure and improved my blood work to the point that I only have one thing out of the desired range. Cholesterol is at 84.
Keep up the good work and it will show in how you carry yourself and will improve your health.

Wow! Do I feel better or what. Only several weeks have gone by but I'm feeling the results already.
1. Sleeping sounder
2. Feeling stronger in my walk
3. Thinking clearer
I'm looking forward to more progress in the year ahead as I forge ahead into a complete workout schedule.
Ken
