Swim technique

Switch strokes

Try switching strokes every few laps. If you're used to freestyle, try breaststroke, butterfly or backstroke.

Maximize DPS

Focus on maximizing your Distance Per Stroke by counting the number of strokes it takes you to get to the other side. Work on reducing that number.

Catch the water

Catch the water with your hand when you take a stroke and imagine pulling your body past your hand.

Reach

For freestyle swimming, make sure to really reach forward when you stroke, as if you're reaching for the next rung on a ladder.

Massage styles

Effleurage (Swedish massage)

Long, flowing or gliding strokes, performed with open hands. A soothing, stroking movement at the beginning/end of facial massage.

Open water swimming

Short strokes

If the water is choppy, take shorter strokes until it smoothes out.
