Yes you're right. There are all sorts of yoga. There's yoga in which you will sweat like a banshee, yoga where you are barely able to move more than one muscle at a time, yoga where you dance around like a dervish, yoga to make your buns hard as rocks, and so on and so forth.
I don't know that explanation beyond that would be anything more than confusing. At some point a student may have interest in looking deeply into yoga philosophy and the various schools of thought from which some of today's yoga offerings come from.
For beginners I recommend a practice that balances safety and efficacy. Some practices are very effective and not at all safe while others are incredibly safe and not at all effective.
Consider an alignment-based practice to start. In that way you will cultivate actions and alignments that will protect you for the duration of your life's practice. Then, should you chose to branch of into other practice you will already have the foundational skills to protect your connective tissue, joints, and bodily systems.
You could also forgo this advice and engage in a more frisky, active, jumpy practice. Adn that may fully serve your particular purpose(s). But it would not give the foundational alignments mentioned above.

There are so many different types of yoga. Can someone explain? And which is best for a beginner?
